WIN-WIN GLOBES

Location: Lake Baikal’s water zone and other reservoirs around the world

Description:

The humankind intrudes upon the realm of nature in a very blunt manner while exploiting it for their own purposes. In his famous novel, Ivan Turgenev very accurately formulated the industrial era human’s attitude to the world around; the novel’s protagonist holds that “Nature is not a temple, but a workshop, and man's the workman in it.” Today it looks like a suicidal blunder! No human health is really possible to sustain in contaminated lands and polluted waters. Today, lots of fresh water reservoirs are in critical condition. The rivers in the Asian part of Eurasia flow down full of harmful chemicals, bacteria and heavy metals. Half of America’s rivers are no longer usable by humans. Nations around the world work hard to ensure better pollution control and preserve fresh water, but no perfect way to combat pollution has been found yet. Anthropogenesis is killing even Baikal, the world’s deepest lake and the largest reservoir of fresh water, which contains 20% of all global reserves. The ever-increasing tourist load causes irreparable environmental damage to the lake. Household waste accumulates on the lakeshores, illegal dumps appear here and there, and the water area is getting polluted. Apparently, the first step in treating the planet is to treat ourselves and recover from irresponsibility, greed and selfishness. What actions can we, as architects, take under these circumstances? We guess combining environmental tourism with the purification of reservoirs could be a good option, couldn’t it? This is how the WIN-WIN GLOBES eco-glamping concept was born. Ingredients: a round floating platform; a luxury awning with panoramic views of the water area and the coastal strip; a residential unit — single, double or twin — including a hot shower, toilet, bedroom and dining room; vertical rotary hydraulic turbine for converting the energy of water movement into electrical energy; replaceable mechanical nozzles for cleaning the reservoir from pollution of various types — from oil and chemicals leakage to solid household and industrial waste on the water surface, in backwaters and at the bottom. This glamorous camping has been supplemented with a number of technological innovations. First, it is a mobile chemical lab that monitors water quality and pollution levels in real time. Second, a technical onshore module for cleaning and refilling the spheres to ensure tourists’ comfort. Third, a system for sorting the collected waste for further recycling and disposal. A thorough mix of all these components makes a comprehensive solution for mutually beneficial and inspiring human-nature experience. We are convinced that everyone who dreams of relaxing in nature among stunning landscapes must take good care of our common home and contribute as much as possible to addressing the environmental issues of today. The win-win philosophy is about prioritizing the interests of all stakeholders, rather than those of the key party. It is this principle that underlies our concept and is reflected in the project’s name.
