Residential complex B-26 Residential complex B-26 is named after the initial address of 26, Blukhera Street. Complex B-26 is located in the district of Yekaterinburg city, which is filled with all types of higher education facilities, scientific institutes, schools and gymnasiums. The tramline running through Blukhera street provides easy access to the city centre, avoiding traffic. The district, established in the early 20th century, consists mainly of old housing stock alongside the fundamental architecture of the abovementioned higher educational establishments. The complex consists of five variable story sections edging semi-closed yard territory. It has a two-level underground parking area underneath. The active silhouette of the building is drawn by alternation of high and medium rise sections. This helps create an expressive facade visible from an architectural angle. The architectural solution is based on the contrast between the precise face of the building and emphasised gable facades. Extravagant balconies resembling Ural gemstones support another expressive architectural theme in the design. As a contradiction to the solid and straight-lined facade design, the complex’s landscaping brings a natural and scenic concept. Its yard provides solace from urban noise and rush hour traffic. The conception of the yard space is based on the Lost World. The inspiration was drawn from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s science fiction novel of the same name. The dinosaur dwelling B-26 protects a lost world plateau and yields a respective atmosphere. The internal infrastructure is attractive and diverse as well as the Lost World’s scientific expedition adventures.
