Cathedral of Saint Ekaterina in Yekaterinburg

Location: Russia, Yekaterinburg

Description:

The project of St. Ekaterina Cathedral Yekaterinburg was planned to be built in the center of the city on the embankment of the Iset River. The Cathedral was supposed to become a landmark of the modern and developing city, as well as the embodiment of the unity of tradition and the search for new ideas in temple architecture. In addition to the main functions which area cathedral prayer meeting and a place for the preservation of relics, the complex is a spiritual and educational center with great functionality, located in the substructure. The Cathedral’s attractive location on the embankment allows you to view its architecture from distant points, which makes it possible to evaluate the main concept of this project «Temple - a source of light». The temple is hardly illuminated from the facades, and the light stream breaks through the lattices of the large openings of the main drum and corner towers. Approaching the temple, the viewer can see the inner vault with the Image of Christ even from the street, thus the hovering image of Christ over the city blesses all the citizens.
