The landscaping of the "Pervomaysky" park

Location: Tver, Russia

Description:

This project is to improve the landscaping of the "Pervomaysky" park, located on the banks of the river Tmaka. An ecological approach was used for the development of this area. The topography of the park allows to create two levels of pedestrian connections and bicycle infrastructure. It is planned to transform the existing ash dump into a picturesque pond with the preservation of its ecosystem, a promenade with sports facilities including a children's exercise area, and quiet recreation areas including a “land-art” park and a zone of urban and vegetable gardens. The inspiration for the project was a desire to unlock the potential of a wetland area near a river rich in flora and fauna, while creating an interesting and accessible park in all seasons. The project involves minimal interference with the park environment and the use of natural materials and local resources. The paths that run at ground level and are proposed to be paved with large concrete slabs, which will prevent them from being washed out during floods. Platform support raised above ground level for 4-5 meters, in accordance with the terrain height difference, are concrete and fences are made in wood. Furthermore, waterlogged areas act as a bio-drainage system in order to strengthen the shorelines. The most challenging aspect of the project was to understand and deal with the actual environment, including its climatic and natural features, all whilst offering an original and modern design solution. It is important to combine the existing functions of the environment with the new and proposed ones. The project is intended to become a new place of leisure for residents and a point of attraction for visitors to the city, thanks to the original design solutions and functions.
