STOPPED THE WINTER

Location: Vasilievsky Island, Saint Petersburg, Russia

Description:

First of all, it looks amazing! That's what we thought when proposing the green office concept for a business space in St. Petersburg. MY ARCHITECTS faced the task of creating 3,000 m2 of interior space with an atmosphere both friendly and calm, while at the same time conducing to work. And what facilitates team-building and informal communication better than natural shades of wood, stone, grass, and earth? Especially when the weather outside discourages any cheerfulness. Saint Petersburg is the northern capital of Russia. In winter, the city is covered with a dense blanket of clouds. The sun occasionally breaks through this thick mass only for a few minutes – but not every day. For 5-6 long months, residents of the city are surrounded by a dark gray landscape that can be described in three words: cold, graphic, and heartless. Natural paints and materials along with abundant lighting and lush greenery in the workplace will provide a positive emotional boost and help lift the employees' mood. The client agreed that this solution would contribute to achieving higher professional results. We filled the interior with natural components. Natural lighting is complemented by original lamps, pendant lights and LED panels. Public areas and meeting rooms are visually expanded with mirror panels and glass partition walls, while LED ambient lighting makes furnishings look airy and virtually weightless. Manager and employee offices are decorated in the lightest possible shades, and public spaces are livened up with bright, yet unobtrusive color accents. Compositions of real indoor plants fill office interiors with a sense of comfort and beautiful contrast. Thus, we shaped a unified ecosystem for the business to function effectively. We should separately note that the implementation of this concept requires extensive effort, since the deceptive simplicity of eco interiors hides a complex utility network comprising a climate system, ventilation with air purification and disinfection, as well as drip irrigation and nutrition for the plants, which become full members of this project team.
